We have sad news to share from the Sandals and Beaches Resorts brand. It was announced today, that Beaches Ocho Rios is closing for good on May 31st, 2025.
For backstory, Beaches Ocho Rios opened in 1997, making it the second Beaches Resort property ever, and the second on the island of Jamaica (the first being Beaches Negril). Located in Ocho Rios, this resort was close to Sandals Ochi and Sandals Royal Plantation and offered travelers a family-friendly all-inclusive option in the Ocho Rios area.
However, this property was the only resort left in the brand that Sandals Resorts International (SRI) did not own outright. They leased the resort, which has made it harder to do the necessary renovations and improvements over the years. And toward the end, those improvements were much needed. Because of that, the resort owners have decided to close down and make the significant repairs needed. Sandals Resorts International did say there was potential for a continuing partnership after the renovations were completed, but there is no official word on when the work will finish or if this will come to fruition.
What If I Have A Future Beaches Ocho Rios Booking?
For guests with future bookings past May 31st, 2025, Beaches will be working to move your reservation to Beaches Negril or Beaches Turks and Caicos. If you booked with My Paradise Planner (our agency), your Paradise Planner (agent) will be reaching out shortly. If you booked directly with Beaches then you can call 1-800-BEACHES to discuss options with a reservation specialist there.
Are Other Beaches Resorts Opening In The Future?
Beaches Negril and Beaches Turks and Caicos are fully open and accepting guests. Beaches Turks and Caicos is also undergoing an expansion with their new Treasure Beach Village set to open March of 2026, providing many new options for Beaches guests in the future.
In Jamaica, Sandals Resorts International acquired the former Jewel Runaway Bay property, halfway between Montego Bay and Ocho Rios, which, once opened, will provide another option available in Jamaica for Beaches families. There is no official opening date, but we expect an announcement soon.
Beaches Barbados and Beaches Exuma (Bahamas) are both currently being worked on, and though an official opening date is not set for either yet, we expect that they will be available in the next few years. Of course, as soon as anything official is announced we'll be posting about it, so keep an eye on our blog.
